Immokalee MeetingIn an effort to help local businesses obtain County contracts, the Immokalee Lighting and Beautification MSTU is dividing the maintenance contract into different components.  The Immokalee Beautification MSTU manage the maintenance of all public area along Main Street (SR 29) and 1st Street (CR  846) within the limits of Immokalee Urban Area.

It is now time to file the 2012 Annual Report to maintain "active" status with the Division of Corporations. The report is due by May 1st. Annual Reports filed after May 1st will be assessed a $400.00 late fee, which cannot be waived.

 

 

Local Section 3 Construction Company Wins Stormwater Sub-Contract

 Immokalee CRA’s Executive Director, Penny Phillippi,  had one goal and two objectives in mind last year when she charged the IBDC staff  to coordinate a gathering of developers, contractors, sub-contractors, laborers, vendors and procurement specialist in the construction field,  The goal was job creation.

Objective 1:  Identify Immokalee’s  independent construction companies eligible for Section 3 Business Certification and assist them with the application process.  

Objective 2:  Provide a forum to introduce the small construction firms and vendors to the larger contractors and developers and in doing so create employment opportunities for sub-contractors and local tradesmen.

Manuel Padilla Inc., a local construction company owned by Manuel Padilla attended the Builders’Expo, curious to learn if there could be opportunity for his small construction company to grow and create jobs for Immokalee’s laborers and tradesmen.

With the assistance and services provided by the IBDC, Manuel Padilla, Inc. was certified as a Section 3 Business eligible to bid on projects funded by HUD. 

When the Immokalee Stormwater project came up for bid Manuel Padilla was in a position to pursue a sub-contracting spot with DN Higgins  as a Section 3 Business.

In compliance with HUD Section 3 requirements, DN Higgins awarded the Section 3 Business contract to Manuel Padilla, Inc.

Manuel Padilla continues to receive technical support and coaching from IBDC while his construction company is in the expanding phase.

HUD Section 3 Compliance Workshop Puts Immokalee on the Map.

Collier County's Policy and Procedure developers,  procurement specialist, contractors , grant managers and HUD funding recipients gathered in numbers at the Immokalee CRA sponsored workshop on Section 3 Compliance issues. Representatives from HUD delivered valuable information pertaining to the implementation of the Collier County Section 3 guidelines.

On September 27, 2010, President Obama signed into law the Small Business Jobs Act of 2010 (the "Act").  The Act created the State Small Business Credit Initiative, which was funded with $1.5 billion to strengthen state programs that support lending to small businesses and small manufacturers.

Turbo Services Establishes Facility at Immokalee Airport

The Immokalee Regional Airport is adding new aviation tenants with the construction of a new test facility for turbo gas generators overhauled from former aircraft engines. The Collier County Board of County Commissioners approved on Tuesday the lease for Turbo Services, Inc. and their participation in Fast Track permitting through the County's Economic Stimulus program
